Entertaining article : OK guys, what's the most significant thing that's happened in Toronto this decade, the first of the new millennium?
We survived Y2K, but started the decade and century with a doctor taken hostage and a shootout in the ER at St. Michael's Hospital, right after the clock struck midnight on Jan. 1, 2000.

My vote goes to The 2003 blackout left Torontonians in the dark and barbecuing all the meat in their freezers. That turned into a fantastic party for many.

My vote goes to the 2005 Boxing Day killing of Jane Creba during a gang shootout, while she was shopping with her family on Yonge Street. It seems like gangs these days in the city are completely out of control with no regard for other people's life.

There was a big blitz after that incident for gun control and police tried to shut down gangs to no avail.
