I feel the need for a good old fashion hunt.

Where do the 20-something to the 40-something legitimate women hang out? Preferably professional and some English, but those things are certainly negotiable for the right chicas.

San Pedro area? Which bars? Other areas?

I want to go two-legged dear hunting bad. Can you help?

As mentioned before spanish skills will make your hunting better but clubs and bars in the escazu area is not a bad start. You might have to befriend some locals to help the process along also. they know more poeple than you do. Happy Hunting, they're out there. :wink:

yeah, I guess i should check into the VIP thing. I have a whole portfolio form the ZB, the Del, Fantasy, Cuma Sutra, and various otra places but I might feel a little bit funny about making them public.....nawwww.

I just wouldn't mine the same chica without the dinero outlay so often (even though it's much cheaper in the long run; a "date" is a non recurring expense--a girlfriend is overhead.

You don't give much information about your age, etc. If you're 18-30 years old, you might try the area near the University in San Pedro. I'm going to probably spell this incorrectly, but I believe the street is calle Amargadura. It's very close to long-time favorite music venue, the Jazz Cafe, which is also an okay place to meet locals.

The type of woman you seek will be in the minority. Sadly, classy women with education and English will usually be part of the upper class...which is not to say that some middle-class ladies wion't speak English. I think however, that you'll really need bank, grille and game to rise above the status of gringo whoremonger and start finding real quality gals.

Orange is spot-on. If you don't speak Spanish, start studying. Actually, a local language school which also offers English language courses to ticos might be a good place to get to know some local girls.

If you're really an honest, sincer guy and if you've got a steady income (regardless of level)), you might have more luck in smaller towns, such as Grecia, Palmares or San Isidro del General, but keep in mind that "nice" girls will have to be courted in a way that your parents were familiar with. Slow, sincere and steady. Five or six dates before even a serious kiss. If you've got the patience, more power to you.

Why not grab a box lunch (no jokes here guys, please) and hang out at noon on the Plaza in front of the National Theater, or near the INS building, where numerous secretary types enjoy their lunches.

Finally,, learn to dance "latin:" Salsa, merengue, bachata, cumbia. This culture offers many social opportunities for those who can dance.

You're absolutely right about the "slow going with the nice girl." I tried it and soon gave up. It was taking too much effort at too slow a pace. I knew it was going to be a problem when after the second date, I tried to kiss her goodnight and she turned her face so the kiss would land on her cheek and not her lips. :? That was the end of that.

A number of Latina amigas from all over the Spanish-speaking world have told me that American and Canadian males, and to a lesser degree Aussies and Brits are perceived as being rogues who want to move too fast, love too hard and leave too soon. :?

I've also been told that Latinas come in two basic categories, "good girls" and "bad girls," and that N. American mating behaviors are culturally unsuited for the "good girls."

As prostitution is so widely recognized in Central America, solo gringo travelers are automatically suspect, either as mongers or queers. :!: Gosh...

With the cards stacked against us, it's no wonder that most of us take the easy, cash-based route to having a one hour to several months novia (or "favorita," if you prefer).

If I was again a young man, yet had the Spanish and smarts that I now possess, I might pursue a "normal" relationship. But even if those things were true, the relationship would be challenged by cultural and linguistic challenges, and by the overwhelming perception held by most Centroamericanos that gringos are all wealthy.
