I have heard many people debate the question whether an Rx is need to buy medication in Mexico. The Mexican government provides the following on-line information that all (who speak Spanish) can review.

5.11.1 En la etiqueta de los medicamentos, se deberل expresar la clave de registro sanitario, tal como se indica en el oficio de registro, seguida del nْmero romano de la fracciَn que corresponda a los medicamentos, ambos con la misma tipografيa y tamaٌo, y de acuerdo a la siguiente clasificaciَn:
I. Medicamentos que sَlo pueden adquirirse con receta o permiso especial, expedido por la Secretarيa de Salud;
II. Medicamentos que requieren para su adquisiciَn receta médica que deberل retenerse en la farmacia que la surta y ser registrada en los libros de control que al efecto se lleven;
III. Medicamentos que sَlo puedan adquirirse con receta médica que se podrل surtir hasta tres veces;
IV. Medicamentos que para adquirirse requieren receta médica, pero que pueden resurtirse tantas veces como lo indique el médico que lo prescriba;
V. Medicamentos sin receta, autorizados para su venta exclusivamente en farmacias, y
VI. Medicamentos que para adquirirse no requieren receta médica y que puedan expenderse en otros establecimientos que no sean farmacias.

Medications fall into one of several categories (or schedules):

Category I medications may only be taken with permission of the Secretary of Health. Usually they are experimental drugs.

Category II drugs require the pharmacy to keep records on who bought the medication. They will probably keep your Rx and you will need a new Rx each time you visit the pharmacy.

Category III medications are limited to three refills. Obviously records should be kept by the pharmacy.

Category IV medications require an Rx from a Mexican physician. However, the pharmacy is not required to keep records about who bought the medication.

Category V medications do not require an Rx. They can only be sold in a pharmacy.

Category VI medications do not require an Rx. Their sale in not restricted to a pharmacy (think of something like Aspirin sold in grocery stores).

Viagra, etc. are category IV drugs.

Don't concern yourselves with getting a prescription in Mexico just so you can buy one pill of Viagra. I say that because I know damn well most of the guys here especially the ones going to TJ for the first few times are not going to go to a Mexican doctor and get a prescription for one pill.

What are you going to do with a prescription? You can't take those pills back into the US, because custom agents no longer accept prescriptions from Mexican doctors as they changed the policy a few years back.You now need a prescription from a US doctor, and if you have a prescription, why don't you just bring you US bought Viagra, and save us lots of trouble from writing on these threads?


Be a man and just walk in a pharmacy they have about 5 on every corner, and buy 100mg of Viagra, and if you are small 50mg of Viagra will do for most people , the recommended dose of Viagra is 50mg taken 1 hour prior to anticipated sexual activity.{ I buy 100mg, and cut it in half to use the other 1/2 of pill later)

If you get to Tijuana late they have a 24 hour pharmacy on the corner of 2nd Streeet and Constitution. In fact if I'm coming to Tijuana late like I did last week, I tell the taxi driver to drop me off here and then I walk to the Zona, two blocks away, but yes you have to walk that so-called dangerous stretch of 1 Street[Articulo 123] That's another laugh, because you have to be a real PUSSY to be scared on this tiny street as there are tons of people on this street all hours of the day and night, but farther down it gets a little deserted.

If you can't be a man and buy a Viagra pill without a prescription out of fear that some TJ cop is going to drag you out of the pharmacy and take you to jail, then you also have the option of buying the fucking Viagra pill in the Zona bars. They sell it right there in the bathroom, see the bathroom attendant,what can be easier? You take a PISS and then POP a Viagra, but it does cost a little more buying it in the bathroom, but only a few dollars more, and it sure beats the cost and time wasted running down a Mexican doctor to get a prescription you really don't need.

It is a subject that's open to debate if you even actually need a prescription to buy a Viagra as I don't believe a TJ Cop would actually take you to see a judge for carrying one pill on Viagra, but if they catch you, some TJ Cops will tell you it's illegal, and will try to make you pay a bribe. As far as I know there has never been a case reported or I heard where a cop actually went so far as taking a monger in front of a judge or carrying one Viagra?

Hey guys:
I have try several time with Viagra which I bought in TJ.
Usually, I used them in over seas trip , I don't use the V. when I am
in TJ. I only buy about 10 pills 100mg. and don't think much about
getting problem on the way walking back the border.
BTW, The V. I bought in T.J. work as well as the one I have in USA.
which are required a Doc. prescritions. I carry them thru. the Prague
trip and did not have a single problem at Immigration custom in Czech. Republic
either with only 10 pills. and good for 20 pops !!!

as per V goes, are you looking real real or generic?

if you are going to buy 50 @ 100mg pills , your not saving any money if you buy real ones.

in TJ, not every thing buy are real even it says pffiser on it....

Mileno Farmacia on the corner as you cross into Mexico post hours until 10pm 7 days a week. They are always closed at 9:45 to 9:50.

Yes--if the catch you. Legally you need an Rx from a Mexican physican to buy Viagra. The cops have the law on your side, so carry enough extra cash to pay a big bribe.

I fear that is more than can be justified as being needed for personal usage; it could be considered enough for a sales/distribution case. The same with US customs.

I'd get an Rx from a Mexican physican. Then you're safe in Mexico. The Rx isn't technically valid for importing meds into the US. However, back when I was still living in the US I had good luck getting US customs to accept a Mexican Rx for up to a 60 day supply of medication. (If it were me I'd declare it. Better to lose the stuff than pick up a federal case.)

Planning to drive down to TJ from LA to pick up some Viagra from the pharmacy right across the border. Anyone know how late they are opened till on the weekday. I don't think I can get there until 10pm. Will they be opened.

Also, do you think the border police will sweat me for carrying over 50 pills.
