When you're chatting online and you say hi or hey and...?

Someone responds "hello (name)"
Doesn't that sound a bit cold or unfriendly or the other person is in a bad mood. Just my opinion ?

No, it's just a normal polite response, perhaps by someone who doesn't feel comfortable with using 'hi' or 'hey'. It's considered well mannered to acknowledge someone by name when speaking to them.

That's the problem with online chat though, you can't tell what someone is thinking from what they type. I always assume that the person is not that interested in the conversation if they type an answer full of spelling errors and text speak to me. Perhaps I'm old fashioned but that's how I feel about it.
