Where to get HOT STONES?

1. Where do you think is the best place to get HOT STONES for hot stone massage?

2. A friend of mine wants to carry in her store and would REALLY like to find wholesale.

That's 2 separate questions. Any insights at all appreciate!

They have been easy to work with and hold heat well.

I think the best stones come from stonetempleinstitute.com Most of my stones came from them but I have some that I got from other sources and in my opinion theirs are far superior.

Not sure if they do wholesale or not and they're definitely not cheap but they are however good quality stones.

Hot stones

There are so many places to purchase stones for hot rock use...

I've been using hot stones for several years now, and my sets came from a local wholesale stone merchant. I went with a gifted teacher at the time and we patiently went through the many bins to select black river rocks that perfectly fit my hands for everything from facial stones to limb and back stones to a wonderful 7lb sacrum stone. Then we cleaned them and left them in the sunshine for several days to charge. I still do this after use and also periodically lay them out under the full moon at home in addition to normal sanitary cleansing after each use.

It may sound silly but the charging does seem to make a difference. I also add sea salt and lavender to the heating water. When I was starting out I worked in a spa and the stones were provided by the spa. Because I had to do everything exactly like the other therapist I could not add anything to the water or do anything with the stones other than an antiseptic bath (issues that clients preferred my style of bodywork over hers were already brewing). There were not many sizes to choose from (about 20 in the $250 set) but the work I did with these stones was pleasant enough, clients reported. However, the ones who followed me to private practice where I used my own stones commented how much better they felt afterwards and how much longer the great feeling lasted. I have to think it was largely the charging and water, not to mention the variety of sizes, that helped make such a noticable difference for them. (Of course, not having to share my workspace with a highly negative person also helped).

Expensive special stones that come pre-blessed or from a 'magical' place certainly have their place as valuable tools, but intent and proper cleansing and charging count for something, too.

The initial cost for my stones was under $50 and I have enough stones that I can rotate sets needing recharging with a set always ready in the cooker. If you are starting out and are strapped for cash, consider what I did, but please do your research so you can be sure you choose stones with the proper mineral content so they hold heat well but not too much, etc.

Hot Stone

I vote for Stone Temple Institute also. Carollanne Critchon has done a couple of hot stone videos that I feel are fabulous. I watched her hot stone video before I purchased the stones (got the video on ebay) and felt she really knows her stuff. When I was able to purchase stones I called Stone Temple she answered the phone and picked out my stones for me. I love them and so do my clients. She knows her mineral content and that makes the heat of the stones more stable and they do hold the heat longer than the stones I was using. They truly are beautiful. I am using 2 electric skillets as she shows her in video, I started out with the roaster and I couldn't get the temperature right they were too hot to handle and if I can't touch them then I can't put them on my client. What is up with the tongs and rubber gloves? I am very happy with my purchase and I am doing hot stone like a seasoned professional. I agree with Mrs. Kitten about cleaning/clearing them in the sun/moon and sea salt.

To me it's very important to get the stones directly from mother nature, so the energy is still retained. Besides the stones that are handpicked and carefully selected are the longest lasting, most effective and most cherished. It may be hard to find a volcano near you or a river bed that isn't polluted for finding stones. That's why i think Hawaiian hot stones offer truly compassionate services, they understand the importance of each stone.
