WILKES-BARRE — It was an unhappy ending for two women accused of running a prostitution business out of a Larksville massage parlor.
Kim Young Suk, 54, and Jae “Sunny” Ryeong Kimnam, 48, both of Flushing, New York, each pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of promoting prostitution for running a brothel out of the Ace Acupressure Spa business at 606 E. Main St.
Investigators alleged that Kimnam was the owner and manager of the business, while Suk was responsible for greeting guests at the door and escorting them to massage rooms.
State and borough police, along with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, arrested the duo in September after a confidential informant got a little too much massage on the government’s dime, court records show.
According to a criminal complaint, investigators gave the informant a fake ID, an undercover credit card and $60 in marked money to conduct a probe of the business the evening of Sept. 1.
Police say the informant entered the business and began to talk prices. After learning the proprietor no longer accepted credit cards, the informant went outside to his state police handler, turned over the ID and credit card, and got $60 more in recorded cash, police said.
The man returned to the spa and met a woman later identified as Suk, who led him to a massage room and collected $60, the complaint says.
The informant got undressed and waited until a woman later identified as Kimnam entered, saying it would be $60 for her to perform a sex act with her hand while topless, according to police.
The informant got onto the massage table, turned over the cash and received the sex act from Kimnam, police said.
A search of Kimnam’s room that night turned up the $120 the informant had spent, along with fresh condoms hidden in a Mentos container and a “large number of used condoms” in the bathroom, the complaint says.
Both women have a history of prostitution arrests, according to police.
Luzerne County Judge Joseph F. Sklarosky Jr. accepted the pleas Tuesday and set their sentencing for Feb. 8.
They were ordered to pay $345 in restitution and agreed to forfeit more than $13,000 seized during the investigation.
The women, who officials previously identified as Korean nationals, are facing immigration detainers following their arrests in September.
They remain in custody at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
