ANY GOOD MASSAGE CREAMS/LOTIONS AVAILABLE IN STORES?

I was using Biotone, then switched to Sallys SPA line massage cream and liked it. Now Sallys is NOT going to be carrying it anymore, and Im just about out.

I live in a small town, so not alot of options except the health food store.......just wondering if there is anything available IN stores that people like

Say WHAT? Sally's isn't going to be carrying spa touch anymore? I was just in a local store where I buy it regularly and the manager didn't say word ONE.

I buy arnica lotions and gels, biofreeze, and some lotions at a local osteopathic pharmacy in a super-tiny town.

Sally's did have Amber Products a while back... may be the SPA line you are speaking of. In a pinch, I've used the lotion and it was ok for me.

Go to the store and get refined coconut Oil this is great because it fairly inexpensive. Often you can find this at a grocery store. I live in small town Vermont so I know the drill. Coconut oil is nice because it is a solid at room temperature and it melts in your hand. I order my other stuff on the phone or online because Biotone and a lot of these other processed products are junk and filled with chemicals and aren't that good for you or the client. Shea butter is great if you can find it. I get mine from Woodsong Herbals in Vermont, there products are all natural and organic when possible. (802) 728-4941 call them for more details.

Jojoba oil can be found in a lot of health food stores (yes, even the smaller ones may carry it). You might also try something like Alba Botanica (some Targets carry the unscented version).

I use grapeseed oil. I just buy it from the grocery store. It works really well. Most health food stores carry some massage oils. Their are a number of different oils you can use. I made the switch from lotion to oil years ago to cut down on costs and use something more natural.

A lot of students, several instructors and the professional therapists at the massage clinic/school where I work use Vasaline Deep Conditioning Cocoa Butter Cream. It comes in a squeezable tube like biotone, is thick and creamy - give great slide AND grip and is under $4 per tube, available anywhere. I have used it a few times because someone left it in my massage room, and I have had students work on me using it - I am picky about what I like to be worked on with, I think it felt great.

Personally I dont like the idea of clients seeing it is an everyday product that I bought at Walmart, but it FEELS good and I reccomend trying it.

I would be cautious about using this product on clients. I looked up the ingredient list

Water, Petrolatum, Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Isopropyl Palmitate, Glycol Stearate, Dimethicone, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter (Cocoa), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil or Glycine Soja Oil (Sunflower, Soybean), Glycine Soja Sterol (Soybean), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E Acetate), Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A Palmitate), Sodium Stearoyl 2 Lactylate, Collagen Amino Acids, Urea, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Carbomer, Lecithin, Mineral Water, Sodium PCA, Potassium Lactate, Lactic Acid, Fragrance, Stearamide AMP, Triethanolamine, Methylparaben, DMDM Hydantoin, Disodium EDTA, Caramel, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891)

The 2nd ingredient is petrolatum. I would not want to put this over someone's entire body. Several other of the ingredients are also dicey.

This might be ok in a pinch but I think for regular use, you'd be better to find a different product.

I'm not sure exactly what type of lotion or cream you want, but you can always buy a "plain" lotion (Walgreens sells many different organic and natural products with no scent, chemicals, or parabans. I prefer a water base, but they also have oil based, you should try both and see what you like to work with.) and you can find many different oils like grapeseed, almond, and jojoba, that you can mix in. You can also buy essential oils at places like Whole Foods, or other health food type foods so you can have a natural scent, or any type that you want! Check out the Spa Pantry book for simple ideas for lotions, creams, scrubs, etc!

Just be sure to read the labels on the back, if in doubt, stick to ingredients that are simple, and that you can understand the products. Good luck

Burts Bees doesn't give enough slip. Feels great on the skin but it absorbs way to fast for me.

For just feet it works great.

I agree with Shannon. I have personally found lotions that you buy in the store don't stay on the skin long enough for a massage espically if you are doing deep work on someones back for an hour for example, you will need to keep applying ever 4 seconds

Thanks for all the replies. Coming back to say I found a local source for on-site purchase of jojoba oil as well as another for a hand-blended creme 'whip' that work wonderfully. Because they're local, I can go as often or as little as needed with no risk of it being off the shelves for good {as was recently the case with Amber products at the 8 closest sally stores to my home} And I am going to be doing some trades with one of my creme suppliers, which helps us both out and helps me keep my expenses under control
