Aromatherapy course

Hi am going to be doing the VTCT aromatherpy course in october, wondered if any one has done this and can tell me what books and equipment i would need? just to give me a rough idear any help would be good?
also does anyone know how many case studys i would need?

froggy you should be able to get this information from the college/school you will be studying with.

I know that there are two sets of oils - a standard and an extended so before you buy anything check which you will be using. Also shop around. Many online retailers sell sets in boxes. You may find it easier and cheaper to buy the oils separately and find a box you are happy with later. It took me five years to find a carry case I was happy with at a price I was prepared to pay and I don't buy all my oils from the same supplier either.

Even when you have a book list you may want to consider other texts esp A&P books. Libraries sometimes have good selections, alternatively there is a list of recommended books on the forum (sticky at the top) and suppliers. As to case studies it will depend on the format approved for the college you are studying with some seem to require more than others.

Having said all that enjoy the course. I love being an aromatherapist it has opened my eyes to so much more about myself recently than I had previously imagined possible.

I did my aromatherapy as part of my VTCT Level 3 Holistic Therapies. The best books I found where from Julia Lawless and Aromatherapy for Holistic Therapists by Francesca Gould.

Like the reply below it depends on the college/school you attend, but I had to do 5 clients 5 times for home case studies and 4 clients 5 times in class! The same for Body Massage and Reflex!

Hi Froggy

The VTCT requirement is for 30 hours of case study, which works out at 6 x 5 sessions or 5 x 6 sessions. Life gets in the way sometimes and I had 5 x 5 sessions and 6 one offs - circumstances beyond our control!

They have a list of 30 oils, which does change so I'd rather not tell you exactly which ones, but your college will tell you. They may also have an agreement with a supplier of kits. You do not have to have the kit they prescribe: as long as you have the oils VTCT say then you shouldn't have to buy another kit. The college should also have their own oils for student use.

As for books, the best I found was the Julia Lawless book. I used about 10 books in total, most of which were my own.
