Maybe there is a method in his madness.

Is this not the guy who was in the papers awhile ago, something about immigration not allowing him to bring in any more girls from Europe?
His thinking maybe that if he can close some of these places down, two things will happen:

1. He will reduce competition in the adult entertainment business.

2. He maybe be able to increase his supply of ladies that have to leave the spa's because of licensing issues, and his hopes they will then move to stripping as a quick way to earn some money and he can find a way then to increase his supply of ladies.

Not a bad plan if he is this smart.
Kind of a lousy way of doing business, but ethics may not be a consideration for him.

Maybe I am giving him too much credit.

Hi fellow massageplanet.netites!! I know most of you are upset about the new hours (closing at 9pm) but just to let you know, a few of my whacker friends are actually happy about the new hours (myself included). Honestly, after 14 clients a day, I'm usually dead tired by 9 o'clock and I'm more than happy to go home. I don't mind doing 12 clients a day instead of 14. I agree though... places that are slow... the girls will suffer (less income). At our place, usually, by 9 o'clock, instead of fighting for the clients, me and the other girl is usually pushing the other person to go because we don't want anymore clients. I know... it's stupid, it's extra money for us, but at that point... we're so tired, we just want to get out of there.

Just thought I'd offer a different point of view.

But then again... we're just talking about two lazy whackers here... don't know if I'm lazier or she is. I'm sure other MPAs would want that extra hour to make more money since they're there already. Clearly, the biggest losers with the earlier closing hours, are the bosses and the clients. Just try to squeeze in earlier I guess.

That's right. This is "the City"'s way of eliminating MPAs and owners who "bought" phoney certificates / diplomas without taking the courses. Very clever. Me and a few of my friends WON'T have a problem because we actually DID go to school for our certificates. Me.... I'm always going to school for something... c'mon... it's fun. Even if you don't pass... who cares. I went to piano school (passed grade 6), swimming school (didn't passed that one... almost drowned... some guy had to come save me), baking school (wasn't any good at that either... cake exploded), cooking school (that was fun... made a big mess everywhere though), arts & crafts (all my arts & crafts turned out funny-looking but who cares), make-up classes (that was totally AWESOME),... the list goes on and on. So all MPAs out there... here's my step-by-step guide on getting your holistic license...

1) GO TO A LEGITIMATE HOLISTIC SCHOOL!!! It's actually not that hard. Just attend about 70 percent of the classes, memorize about 70 percent of the materials, and take the tests. Chances are, the other 30 percent either won't come up or you can try guessing at the answers anyways. I say 70 percent because I don't know about anyone else but I've got limited brain space so I can memorize pretty much word for word but only about 150 pages to 200 pages of info. But then, I can't talk to anyone until after my exam otherwise, all the information start leaking out. Then, usually, after the exam, I totally forget everything. Powerful memory but short-term only. That's why I do really poorly in math and other subjects that I actually have to work out the answers. If I can just memorize the thing... no problem. Otherwise... big problem. That's why for them to ask me to produce a legitimate holistic certificate... no problem. Even if they ask me for 50 million certificates, I can produce them all since I pretty much went to all the different schools there is in Toronto. (In case anyone's wondering... yes, I did go to University as well. And yes, I did graduate and got my BA. The first year I was there, I did really well... my LOWEST mark was 75 percent. Second year and third year though, I did really sh*tty. Still passed all my courses though. The reason??? because I didn't really want to be there anymore; my heart just wasn't in it. Plus, a few times, I had two exams the same day and with my limited brain space, things just didn't work out too well.)

2) Take your certificate and go down to the Licensing Department downtown. Trust me, you'll be proud you earned that piece of paper. Get off at Dundas Station, go to POPEYE's, stuff your face with their yummy chicken and mash potatoes, (don't know what that has to do with getting your holistic license but oh well), exit POPEYE's, turn right, first light turn left, and walk 'til you see a Tim Horton's on your right hand side. Then turn left on that street and voila... you're there. There's gonna be this really nice blonde girl there with hair down to her waist and glasses (I swear... she's ALWAYS there. She must've been there for years. I think she's totally hot. She looks maybe Polish.) and just hand her your LEGITIMATE certificate that you worked so hard for. Then in about 5 seconds... you'll have your license for next year. I think it's great to learn something new. Plus, if you later on want to work at an upscale spa like "Uptown Spa", you can. (I think they're for ladies only... it's absolutely gorgeous inside. They do facial... manicures... pedicures... all sorts of things there). How totally awesome is THAT!!!!

So all MPAs... don't worry. It's much easier than you think. Just take the courses and make sure you pass. That's all. You have to watch it though. Some schools... a passing mark is 50 percent. Other schools... it's 60 or 70. Hope this helps. Oh... and you do usually need a high school diploma or equivalent to enter the courses. Nope... no phoney certificates for me... if I'm gonna pay for the course, might as well learn something from it. Why would I want to pay to get a stupid piece of paper? For what? I make sure I get my money's worth and you should too.

Several of the TCM schools teach Tuina in Chinese, may recognize their training back home. Certificate programs qualified for the old Holistic Practitioner Licensing. You may want to ask to ensure they still qualify. As mentioned membership to 1 of 13 associations. Some massageplanet.net guy is trying to make quick buck selling licences.

Never try chicken from that Popeye, line-up whenever I'm in the mood. And how much I hate line-ups...Usually end up at Lick's for their Homeburger and Shakes.

Hi lynxguru!! It's really nice of you to inquire for your MPA friend because I know this new by-law is giving a lot of owners and MPAs a big gigantic headache. However, I'm not too sure if I can help. I'm fluent in English (actually English was one of the subjects I majored in back in University... yup, loved all that Shakespeare stuff... I know... I must've been sick in the head...) so all the holistic schools and other schools that I've ever been to were all taught in English. So I really don't know what she can do if her English is limited. (Maybe take an English class first? I know that can be time consuming but hey, at least she's gonna have good English at the end of it. ) And most of them do require you to at least have a high school diploma or equivalent. Maybe like "goodtime" suggests, if she's oriental, she can go to a Tuina school? And yes, most holistic schools do provide part-time studies. I even heard that some provide on-line courses. I prefer to actually go to class though... with a teacher and students and everything. For me, it's like an new adventure.

Each course and each school really varies from one another. She'll just have to go and check out each of them herself because courses that are suitable for me may not be suitable for her. And courses varies from prices, duration, etc, as well. And like I mentioned in my earlier post, you have to be careful... some courses, you need 50% to pass whereas other ones, you need 70% to pass. It all depends. And plus, some courses give you a certificate whereas others give you a degree or a diploma.

And to all owner / MPAs out there planning to go to holistic school because of this new by-law.... MAKE SURE THEY ARE PART OF THE 13 ASSOCIATIONS LISTED IN THE NEW BY-LAW!!!!!!! Otherwise, don't waste your money!!!!! YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR LICENCE!!!

Hi Venus_mgr!! Actually, I DID get a copy of the new by-law. I checked it out and I actually have MORE THAN ONE certificate that is APPROVED BY THE 13 ASSOCIATIONS, believe it or not. (Yup... that's how many schools I went to. I wasn't kidding. Can't say I passed all the courses I ever took though. Hmmm.... come to think of it, I flunked quite a few of them... I never see it as a waste of money however, since I do have fun and I did learn something from each of the courses. And made some temporary friends too along the way. You see, I enjoy going to school because you pay, and nobody really gives a sh*t whether you show up or not. Or whether you're late or not. Not like work... you don't show up... you get your shifts cut, or you get fined, or canned. So for me, I sign up for a bunch of courses and show up whenever and whichever one I feel like it that day. And they're ALWAYS happy to see me. I kinda treat it like how I treat work... whenever I'm broke, I just call up one of the 25 owners I've ever worked for and I always manage to get a shift somewhere. Same idea. Oh, and of course, ALWAYS show up for your final exam. I swear, highschool was so stupid... I used to flunk EVERYTHING during the semester... labs... surprise quizzes... surprise tests... God, I hated surprises back then... I'd get like... maybe.... 30% during the semester. Anyway, they (highschool) always made it so that the final exam was worth 40% of the final mark so come exam time, I'd just memorize the whole book, totally ace the exam, and "ta da", I'd pass the course anyway. Definitely not with flying colours but, oh well.)

You need to remember that not all holistic places are in the sex trade. Some of them are actually in the massage and holistic medicine business which is what the license is supposed to be for.

So, why not increase or get rid of the inexplicable limit of only 25 of the $10,000 a year "body rub" parlour licences? That would leave the holistic licences to the non-sex trade holistic practitioners, and bring in more money for the city to cover what they say is a $2.5 million shortfall between what is brought in through the licensing, and what it costs to inspect all of the MPs, whether they have the "right" type of licence or not.

That would have been the smart thing for the city to do in he beginning, but now the holistics are so embedded into the fibre of the city, the grey holistics would not bite on changing from holistics to bodyrubs. The licencing fees of body rubs are so far out of sink, with any viable plan for most holistics, they could not survive on a economic basis.
