Green tables?

Hi folks,I'm looking for non-toxic, natural tables... the closest I've come up with is Oakworks, and their non-PVC upholstery. But I am having trouble finding info on polyurethane, so who knows if that's really a better choice. And let's not even talk about the padding Anyone have any ideas for companies/products that fit what I'm looking for better?

i can't say i've seen any others than oakworks.other than covering and foam, i will assume you want an aluminumn legged table to preserve trees.i would also imagine that it would cost you a bundle to have a portable custom done for you. i checked with oakworks about recovering and refoaming my table, and it was almost as much as a new one.unless, of course, you're looking for a stationary table, which could be built by a qualified carpenter.

Ego, a few years ago I saw a special about "green massage tables" that were hand crafted by a carpenter from sturdy, non-rain forest woods. It was capped by a thick, soft, detachable futon with a washable, tight woven barrier cloth cover.

Looked so comfy!

I searched the Net for a few hours and could not find a single reference, though.

Mush... it's ok to be made of wood, as long as the source is sustainable.Gute, you rock! Thanks for looking all that up. I am a new subscriber to Natural Home (which will be changing its name to Natural Home & Garden)... got my first two issues in the mail recently and really enjoying them.So what about this... between the top sheet, a fleece cover, and a memory foam topper... I really doubt much oil will be getting onto my table, correct? Maybe being made out of something like vinyl isn't so important after all?And, I hate to ask, but I'm not vegan yet What about leather?

My pleasure! I learned a lot in that search. THAT looks like a great magazine, Ego.Leather sounds great, I think it would make a beautiful table, actually. I don't think that oil would get through the layers. I'd have to look up a really good answer though, since I'm no expert. Leather has worked fine for many things that people recline on...Wouldn't want it to crack, though?...but that might have something to do with the kind of leather you chose and how it is prepared? Maybe someone will come in quicker with a better response.

The tables I mentioned in another post that can be found at http://www.mettesinstitute.com.au/equipment/products.htm are plantation timber.  They used to offer leather as an option, but found it didn't last that well, but we are talking tables primarily used for lomi lomi with no linen, and I suspect a lot of the practitioners were getting the expensive leather option and then using a really cheap mineral oil the school used to use in classes. Could never figure that one out... Anyway, I don't think you'd have a problem with leather with that much stuff on top of it.  You could try contacting the school about the tables, asking why they stopped leather and if it is still available on special special order.  They're very good tables, just a little bit heavy for me, so I went for aluminium.  Having seen what they put up with in the lomi lomi classes, I can say they are built to last!  Prices in Australian dollars, including a 10% local tax, GST, which overseas buyers don't have to pay.  freight from Australia is relatively cheap - we've got it down to a fine art since everything has to be freighted huge distances  Let me know if you do email and they don't reply - I know they sometimes need a prod to reply to emails

Does anyone know about a company called Soothing Touch? My teacher doesn't know if they're still in business, but she suggested I look at their tables if they are.I got a reply from Living Earth Crafts today that left me with more questions than answers, so I sent off another email to them.

gutehands,Thanks so much for the links.  They are really nice!  I am trying to search for that table with the detachable futon too, but to no avail.  Maybe one of us will find it eventually.I'd really like to see that table!  It sounds wonderful.  ~*~As far as the Soothing Touch Massage table line, I haven't heard of it, and can't seem to google anything that matches.  I'll post something if I find it though.

Just wanted to add this into the mix for what it is worth.

There is a wood out there called TimberSil and it is suppossed to be "non-toxic". http://www.timbersil.com/

Since you are such a go-getter regarding the "green" EgoMagickian, maybe you could be the forerunner in getting the manufacturers to change the wood they work from, or at least offer it as an option. Just a thought.
