how do you introduce a guy to your child?

Hey all, i hope you are well. First of all i shall give you some back ground information. I am a single young mum with a 2 year old girl. I started university a while back as i wanted to better myself so i could provide and support both me and my child in the future. I have been a single mum since my child was born.
I have not yet found or looked for another man as i think my child comes first and i want to put her first and enjoy motherhood and get my life on track before any guy.
However one day i hope to be in a relationship in a few years when i feel ready and maybe have more children if i feel the time is right. I worry about this. I do not know what i would do. I would not want any one my child does not like. How do you bring a new person in to your childs life. Do you introduce them early on or wait a long while? i think it is hard starting a new relationship with a child.

Just straight out and tell them. If they ask you for a date, then you should probably inform them that it will have to be a time that is convinent for you due to the fact that you have a child. Hiding a baby from someone that you are thinking about is not responsible. If the guy is serious about you, then he will not turn tail and run. I know that it will hurt if a guy does as soon as you find out, but like you said, you have to think about what is best for your daughter. Kudos to you for raising your daughter for 2 years alone. I am also a single mom and I understand.

heyy, this happened to me when i was young. i was about 5 or 6, so older than your child but anyway. To be honest, most children, like me (am 15) want their parents to be happy. you need to make sure you COMPLETELY trust this man (whoever he may be, and whenever he may come along) BEFORE letting him into your daughters life. My mum didnt, and he turned out to be an abusive alcoholic, who ended up nearly killing us. i know this is wierd, but to me it is so important you know this man. really. my mum thought she did. but if your daughter is still at a young age, it will be easier. just NEVER try to replace her dad (my mum made me call my stepdad dad, and it killed me. i felt like i was betraying mine) and you will be fine.

Just introduce the child to your friend at the beginning and go from there.Tell her he is a friend and then see how your relationship goes with him and the rest will work out.Good luck.

Face it, the first guy you date will probably not be the one you eventually marry. You will date a few men before you find one that is worthy of your time, your love and the privilege of your daughter's company.

Do not introduce any man you date to your daughter until you really know and trust the man and feel the relationship is getting serious. Not serious only in your mind, but with his actions and words as well. Of course you will tell him all about your daughter, but that does not mean he gets to meet her right off the bat. You need to protect her and get to know this guy before even considering bringing him into her life. You introduce him as "Mommy's friend, Bob"

You daughter does not need to meet every man who asks you out on a date. Besides, after you get to know a few men, they will not be the one. Do not subject your daughter to the revolving man door. It is not good for her to see her mom with man after man, regardless of how involved you do or do not get with these men.

Take dating slow and if there is anything, and I mean anything that shoots up a red flag, run and save yourself and your daughter from a traumatic experience. Follow your intuition and never second guess yourself is something does not feel right.

There are plenty of good men out there. You are level headed and will attract a good man one day. Let him come to you while you continue to concentrate on your daughter's well being.

My niece was raised by my sister who dated and lived with numerous men. My niece has trust issues and other idiosyncrasies related to men. My sister has many regrets and wishes she made wiser choices.

Concentrate on your studies and give that little girl all the love you can because kids grow up so quickly, it is unbelievable how fast time goes by. The next few years are the years that will make your child who she becomes as an adult. You have a very important job here and you are being very responsible, so I am certain you'll make the right choices. Good luck with parenting and with love.

Been there honey! I waited for a few months before the formal introduction, then brought him around my child in small increments, as in for lunch, then I would increase the time to 'family' like activities. Now we're working on the moving in together-almost 2 years later. Take it slow-gauge how the two interact because if my child and my guy just didn't bond at all and there was no attempt, well, the guy would be getting a 'see ya!' lol
