Looking for mineral oil based massage lotion

[Cool like fire!!!!]

I know most of you pooh-pooh mineral oil. But it is one of the few things I am not allergic to (externally).

I am looking for a mineral oil based massage lotion.

The supplier I had is no longer carrying it.

I may be okay with some other oil carriers. Most of the products have some form of palmitate (from coconuts) as a main ingredient and that makes me break out.

They dont have a lotion with mineral oil, however they might be able to make something for you. It's worth a call.

Look into jojoba oil. It's actually a plant wax rather than an oil. It's very similar to the skin's sebum, so it absorbs very well, without that slimey coating. It washes out very well with normal detergent and does not go rancid. It has a thicker consistancy than some other oils so my clients that prefer cream don't mind it at all.

how about just watering down sorbelene with mineral oil?

Though I would recommend looking into jojoba but it will be much more expensive than a mineral oil option.

Are you looking for a mineral oil based option to use when you have a massage? Or to use on your clients?

Just something to pop in, don't mean to hijack the thread, but I know from personal experience coconut can makes you break out because it pulls impurities out of the skin.

They always say you should gradually work up to using it, not just slather tons on at first, and after that it is actually really good for you. You probably already knew that, but just wanted to throw that in. You might not be allergic to it.

I can recommend the Elta lotion. I have been using it for years for the same reasons you listed, with no reactions. My clients like it too and for those few who need to avoid mineral oils, I do keep some options on hand.

The list of aromatherapy essential oils in that article contains known skin irritants!! Plus it includes citrus oils which oxidise into a skin irritant! Citrus oils have a relatively short shelf life. If you use a known skin irritant, you're bound to get skin irritation eventually. Lavender is sooooooo overused, I find a lot of people are sensitised to it these days.

I didn't have time to click and read the whole article, but what then, is the suggestion for massage lubricant. I prefer lotion and perfom a lot of deep tissue work.

I'd be interested in someone providing a list of possible alternatives to the "man-made chemical issue.

Pueppi, if you like lotion, there are lots of options available to you. (I like thicker massage creams, and unfortunately that seems to require chemical additives to give it that consistency.) Here's a list of possibilities for you to try, though. (Even though some are called "creams" they have the consistency of massage lotions.) They all are made from purely natural ingredients. One thing to remember -- since they don't contain preservatives, their shelf life is only 6 months. So, buy in smaller quantities if necessary.

I generally use the Natural Formulations - Deep Tissue Sunflower, but have been having some recent toxicity issues, and need to make a change for at least a while until I get this under control. I am not knocking NF - as I really do love them and the owners have been great when I've dealt with them.

She mentioned "10 or 12 jewels".) So, I'll get it and test it out as I've always wondered about it since then. I'll be trying the lotion. Normally I don't like scents for clients, but, I'll get someone to test it on me. *cheesy grin*

I've tried Twelve Corners and really liked their products. As for the scents, I'm partial to their "Mothers Wish," it's a really nice scent!

As I mentioned in the original post, the mineral oil based lotion I've been using is the only thing I haven't been breaking out with.

I've been getting Topical Plus Lotion from Promotions Unlimited, Boone, NC, 1-800-766-5756 (I don't think they have a web page).

Right now they have a problem getting supplies (they mix their own). Hopefully they will have some again soon.

They also make a sunflower oil based Topical Plus (but they are currently out of that too).

In case you didn't know, the two primary ingredients in that lotion (petrolatum & paraffin) are scientific names for "mineral oil." So, it is a mineral-oil based lotion.

I still have time to check around. Elta sounds good. But $71 dollars a gallon (including shipping) is steep.

The lotion I've been using was around $50 with shipping. I'll call back today to see what the statis is on their supplier. Elta says their lotion goes twice as far (you need less) but I doubt if it is much different than the mineal oil based product I've been using.

Also I talked to someone at Promotions Unlimited today. No website but they do have a catalog.

The problem they had was they had to find a new company to mix their formulations. Apparently there are special processes to ceate lotions and creams out of ingredients. They expect to have their lotions in a week. '

They will be continuing their mineral oil based Topical Plus massage lotion.
