Sesquialcohols

For a piece of Aromatherapy homework, I have to identify what effect sesquialcohols have, and identify one or two essential oils.
I have managed to find out that they act as a general tonic, but can't find anything more about them.
Does anybody have any ideas at all please? Many thanks in anticipation of some help.

SESQUI-ALCOHOLS

I am not familiar with the particular above term but it may help breaking the word down. But someone else may be able to give you a more defined answer than me, but if not this may help your studying???

'Sesqui' is a latin numerical prefix word and means 'one and a half'. And so is a greater concentration.
And 'alcohols' is a term I imagine you are familiar with in aromatherapy.
Tea Tree is high in alcohols as is Sandalwood and Rose etc.

Oh I remember having to learn all this for my aromatherapy and I am the least technical person in the world - I can recommend books that helped my understanding - The Aromatherapy Workbook by Shirley Price. There is a whole chapter on chemistry which helped me. Also Rosemary Caddy and Essential Oils in colour which is a great book with essential oils all shown in a pie chart so you can see which chemicals are there in what percentages.
Alcohols are known to be the Aromatherapists friend as they are generally non toxic and safe to use and can be used long term. They are anti infective, antiseptic, uplifting and antiviral. Rosewood is really high in alcohols as Cirrus said.

Many thanks to you both for your help. I already have the Workbook one, but will certainly look out for the pie chart one - that's really helpful advice.

The latin translation was brill - brings diamonds out of the mud somewhat!

Hi,

I can only find the chemical - sesquiterpene alcohols (as opposed to Monoterpene alcohols) which according to Kurt Schnaubelt tones muscles and nerves, reduce congestion of veins and lymphatic system and has some antimicrobial effects.
