Unfortunately Ford should have locked us down completely as soon as the numbers went up shortly after the schools opened up in September.

Now we're in a real pickle, and the only thing that will prevent a far worse disaster is the early availability of the new vaccines.

Just look at the numbers in the rest of the world, especially the US, to see how bad it could have been had Ford not implemented even the timid restrictions that he did.
Like leaving York region open after closing down Toronto and Peel. As if Steeles Avenue is a controlled international border...

I imagine it would have been impossible for him to sustain support with his base of entitled boomers if he implemented a real lockdown, which would involve actual contact tracing, quarantine facilities, and social infrastructure.

If they say so. I don't trust the government so none of those projections mean anything to me. They've gradually added restrictions since October and numbers have just continuously gone up. There's been no evidence that these cases have been coming from restaurants or gyms or even spas. It's been mostly from social gatherings and schools yet people continue to get away with congregating in large groups. Small businesses have suffered the consequences of their idiotic behaviour.
